How it works
Define the element, put the icon in the markup, set the control's state. Then the parts that make this demo different.
Define the element Built-in triggers only. What each icon follows is written in its markup.
import { defineElement } from '@lordicon/element';
// Registers <lord-icon> with its built-in triggers. The markup says what each icon follows.
defineElement();
import { defineElement } from '@lordicon/element';
// Registers <lord-icon> with its built-in triggers. The markup says what each icon follows.
defineElement();
The button and its icon The icon, the stylesheet and the count all read aria-pressed.
<!-- aria-pressed is the whole state. The icon reads it through `target`, the
stylesheet colours by it, the count is derived from it. The hidden word
makes the button read as "24 stars". -->
<button class="star" type="button" aria-pressed="false">
<lord-icon
class="star__mark"
current-color
src="icons/star.json"
loading="interaction"
trigger="follow(aria-pressed)"
target=".star"
state="morph-select"
aria-hidden="true"
>
<img alt="" src="icons/star.svg" />
</lord-icon>
<span class="star__count">24</span>
<span class="visually-hidden">stars</span>
</button>
Flip the attribute on click No lock, and no mention of an icon.
const button = document.querySelector<HTMLButtonElement>('.star')!;
const count = document.querySelector<HTMLElement>('.star__count')!;
/** Stars from other people. The markup ships without yours counted. */
const OTHERS = Number(count.textContent);
// No lock while the star animates: a click mid-morph reverses the icon, and the number
// is recomputed rather than incremented.
button.addEventListener('click', () => {
const starred = button.getAttribute('aria-pressed') !== 'true';
button.setAttribute('aria-pressed', String(starred)); // the icon follows on its own
count.textContent = String(OTHERS + (starred ? 1 : 0));
});
const button = document.querySelector('.star');
const count = document.querySelector('.star__count');
/** Stars from other people. The markup ships without yours counted. */
const OTHERS = Number(count.textContent);
// No lock while the star animates: a click mid-morph reverses the icon, and the number
// is recomputed rather than incremented.
button.addEventListener('click', () => {
const starred = button.getAttribute('aria-pressed') !== 'true';
button.setAttribute('aria-pressed', String(starred)); // the icon follows on its own
count.textContent = String(OTHERS + (starred ? 1 : 0));
});
Colour from the same attribute One custom property, four states. The icon inherits it through current-color.
/* Resting, hovered, starred, and starred under the pointer. Hover shows the colour a press
would leave; the shape says which state it is. No transition: only the fill animates. */
